An Interview with Ron Cortez of Cafe Cortez

May 21, 2010 Posted by Chris Tingom Filed under Uncategorized

If you have been in the coffee industry in Arizona for any period of time you’ll immediately recognize Ron Cortez. He is one of the most respected and well known roasters in the valley and one of his strengths is his willingness to share what he knows.

I interviewed Ron Cortez of Cafe Cortez recently about part of his coffee operation and you can watch that video below.

You can follow Ron on Twitter or read his blog. Awhile back Ron was on LaFusion television and you can watch that video here.

Cafe Cortez has been in business since 1996 and roasts and consults with a large number of coffee bars. Ron Cortez also founded More Than Fair, which I’ve written about before.

    Tom Maegdlin says:

The one thing that differentiates Ron from the rest of the pack is his belief in the simplicity that exists in every aspect of the coffee industry. If you cast your personal bias aside, you will ultimately come to the conclusion that he is right. Maybe most remarkable of all is Ron’s ability to maintain his confidence in his product even as the industry becomes increasingly dogmatic and uncooperative. My hat is off to Mr. Cortez.

    Ron Cortez says:

Thank you from the hearth Tom.
Long time ago, I decided to start a coffee business with the clear goal of being succesful and by reading your comment I know now that I have achieved my objective. Please stop by to our next round table on Fridays, it’s getting pretty interesting.

    Ron Cortez says:

Hello Steve, the round table is an informal gathering of coffee proffessionals at my place. We get togueter on Fridays and discuss coffee and have a beer (sometimes two). We cup a couple of samples and review some green offerings. I send a message with details the day before to all attendees through twitter.
