April 1, 2013Posted by Chris Tingom

The folks at Songbird Coffee & Tea House have published this video to their YouTube channel. They’ve conducted interviews with their entire team. Most of the interview talks about the sources for their supplies — they use local providers for tea, coffee, pastries, and baked goods.

Dutch Bros. Coffee opens new location at Paradise Valley Mall

A new Dutch Bros. location has opened at Paradise Valley Mall, across from JC Penny, and near Costco, Target, and REI. Paradise Valley Mall is such a great location, and a virtual desert for coffee places.

By my count, this is the 12th Dutch Bros. Coffee location in Arizona.

Tiffany Dew back at Citizen Espresso Bar

October 25, 2012Posted by Chris Tingom

Just heard from Tiffany Dew, who you will recall previously managed Lola Coffee south of Camelback on Central, and then purchased it with help from family; then abruptly left earlier this year.

Well, she is now back at the helm of Citizen Espresso Bar. They have a new Twitter account.

She wrote:

I just wanted to let you know that i am back at citizen espresso bar and we all are moving forward.

Coffee Shops Near the Phoenix Convention Center

I often receive emails from people who will be in Phoenix for a few days while visiting a convention. Typically, they are looking for a good coffee shop near the Phoenix Convention Center. So, what are the options? Good question. Hopefully, this post will help out with the ones within walking-distance.

Probably within walking distance:

Songbird Coffee & Tea House opens

August 29, 2012Posted by Chris Tingom

I thought I should mention that Songbird Coffee is now open in Phoenix. They opened in July and from what I hear, it’s going great. I’m planning a visit very soon. They’re also in the MonOrchid building which currently houses Co+Hoots, a coworking facility.

Mama Java’s Coffee closes, and in its place Terra Java

August 27, 2012Posted by Chris Tingom

I’ve heard conflicting reports about the reason for the demise of Mama Javas Coffee House on Indian School Rd. But, the end result is that there is a brand new coffee house in that place called Terra Java.

The new owner is Omei Eaglerider, who also operates a bakery called Terra Bites Bakery in the same place. I received an email from Omei letting me know they are currently looking to hire a barista.

I’ve heard reports that the space inside has undergone a small remodel.

Lux Central is a busy coffee shop

May 26, 2012Posted by Chris Tingom

You must admit, Lux Central is more than just a coffee shop. Just look at that huge selection of pastries and breakfast items! I visited Lux last Saturday, and it was packed! The line was halfway to the door, and stayed that way for an hour.

Lux Central is still a coffee shop at its heart, but they serve just about everything else: You can order from their lunch and dinner menu, which they post on Facebook daily. Every day it’s a new menu. They also serve beer and wine.

Belly rewards program at Urban Beans

May 25, 2012Posted by Chris Tingom

Check out this interesting rewards program in use at Urban Beans. It’s a system called Belly (watch this video).

I have had a few conversations with the local rep for Belly, and plan to follow up to learn more about how it works. The local rep is David Evan (415-518-4810) in case anyone is interested (email him at: David@bellycard.com).

Lola Coffee announces new coffee shop at Sky Harbor Airport

May 22, 2012Posted by Chris Tingom

Is this the third local coffee shop to open a location in the airport? Not to mention, in Terminal 4 where both Press Coffee Roasters and Cartel Coffee Lab will have branches.

Lola Coffee didn’t release much information, but on their Facebook page they did release a photograph of an artists rendering.

Count me as impressed: I never expected to see a great coffee shop at the airport, and soon we will have 3 shops!

Press Coffee to close CityNorth location, says that new location at Sky Harbor Airport will be opening in May

April 23, 2012Posted by Chris Tingom

espressoThis just in: Press Coffee is closing their original location at the CityNorth complex in North Phoenix. The location will be closing after business on April 30th. This particular location originally opened in 2008.

After speaking with Steve Kraus, owner of Press Coffee, they cited their recent success with their Scottsdale Quarter location, and their upcoming location at Sky Harbor as reasons for closing CityNorth – that they wish to focus on new opportunities. The CityNorth location failed to pick up the growth they expected (probably due to the CityNorth complex’s slower than expected growth – it’s only half built after 4 years).

Additionally, they’ve recently opened a new and expanded coffee roastery / showroom on Broadway in Phoenix, to service their expanding wholesale coffee-roasting business. They have one roaster and they say a second roaster will be operational soon.

press coffee roasters arizonaTheir new location at Sky Harbor Airport is scheduled to open in late May, in Terminal 4 between Gates B6 – 14. Very exciting, and that location at the airport will be serving wine, food, and of course coffee.
