Just went thru there photo gallery. It feels so good to see a brand new coffee house with the desire (and the budget) to do the right thing. Welcome to the Valley of the sun and kudos for starting roasting your own beans. Please become part of the coffee community as we do not grow as a whole by keeing isolated from the rest.

Big deal, they wear bikinis. Other than drive up coffee there isn’t anything different than at any of the million swimming pools pools in the Valley. There’s as much playful sex appeal in Tempe stadium. To the prudes claiming perv and gimmicks? Get over yourself and STFU.

I have been going to the IKE’s downtown for many years. I have also gone to the location on Speedway a few times. Both have their share of staff that are friendly, recognize you and great at making whatever coffee you have a taste for. Yes, occasionally there will be that employee who is not too friendly, standofish almost, but overall, I have always had good experiences at both locations. At the downtown location they great the “regulars” by name and if you order the same thing every time, have it prepared before you’ve even paid most of the time. I will buy my coffee here to support local business more often than buying at Starbucks! I rarely get the personable service at Starbucks that I get at Ike’s and the coffee is much better at Ike’s.

Cartel in Downtown Phoenix is a favorite and I get the Cappuccino.

Although all of them seem to be alike in their decor: grungy. Something different would be nice, just with the same good coffee.

I think my favorite continues to be Cartel. I don’t try a whole lot of other ones at this point, but i think that is because there aren’t a ton of good ones in the east valley.

I’m a fan of menus with minimal options. I think that it allows a business to focus quality on a smaller selection of items. Find what you do best and can specialize in, and keep it at that. Why try to offer everything?

In addition, there is a local roaster called Sky Island (no shop) that sells very nice beans. Can pick it up at the CSA or New Frontiers.

Without poo-pooing Macy’s too much, I’d like to say that while the coffee culture up in Flag is decidedly different than in Phoenix, there are several places that serve much tastier coffee.

Macy’s only serves Americanos. Won’t find a single-serve brewer; the result is something neither remotely fruity nor sweet. Macy’s is all about food, atmosphere and choice. Their food and beverage menu is extensive, and if you’ve a hankering for flavored beverage then Macy’s can provide for you.

Macy’s is where you go if you haven’t had human contact because you’ve been studying too much, and you want to see someone you know. Conversation, ideas, and creativity abound at the crowded tables, but the coffee leaves a lot to be desired.

If you want decent-to-good coffee, you could turn to Bookmans (serving Firecreek) or Flag Coffee (my most recent cup was from Barefoot Coffee). Cafe Rendezvous serves Intelligentsia, though again, they don’t prepare any sort of drip coffee–strictly americanos.

Also, Firecreek is opening (soon, maybe?) a location off of route 66 downtown.

For what it’s worth there’s several “don’t bother” shops in town. Kickstand. Late For the Train. Wicked AZ.

I apologize for the lack of nuance in my assessment. I could drone on for hours.

I try to eat no more than 2 a day, though I admit to sometimes eating 3 (like today). There is nothing like it, and all the imitations — store brands, Stonyfield, etc., just don’t cut it. They used to sell it in large quart containers. Don’t I wish it were still true! But watch out if you really try it: the word “addiction” has popped up in this post for a good reason. You may eventually need a support group like I do.

So, the old CoffeeWizard .. turned into the Donut Wizard.. and now…
it’s a Baristaz. Like the one in Fountain Hills, right off the 87.
Can the local barista community get together and do a sit-in, a car-wash across the street, or something to dissuade people from getting in on this bandwagon?

Let’s keep the gimmicks like this on the outskirts of town.

Speciality coffee should never be on grocers shelves this is a death sentence for all coffee and dis respectable to those who worked so hard to pick process and ship that coffee.
Being on a grocers shelves should never be the goal of any speciality coffee roaster who cares

Kona Coffee shoukd never be blended, i t is a (stand alone) coffee. It may be that the roasters in your area do not have access to enough coffee to meet the demand. Many of the best Estate Kona Coffee comes from smaller farms that only produce 400 to 500 pounds per year. Each farm has its own small taste differences, depending on many things.

I am wondering how many of these shops have a drive thru? I am from Washington state originally and there were coffee shops or carts everywhere. Since being here I have to go into a shop to get a good coffee and have not seen any drive thru’s. The convenience of a drive thru on the way to my work is priceless
