In early April a new coffee shop opened in the lobby of the Glendale Public Library. It’s called Perfetto de café and is co-owned by Susan Phelan and Stefani Sacco, Phoenix residents who run two similar cafés at area universities.

There was a writeup in the newspaper recently which brought it to my attention. I think it’s a fabulous idea as long as they have enough foot traffic this could really take off.

In early April, a coffee bar called Perfetto de café opened inside the front lobby of the library, 5959 W Brown St. The café features a full espresso bar, gourmet coffees, Italian sodas and teas, as well as a variety of sandwiches, salads and desserts.

“We were looking for ways to make the look of the library more conducive to coming in,” said Rodeane Widom, director of the library. “As long as I’ve been working for public libraries, we have been trying to revamp ourselves and have people come in for reasons other than books.”
