Reports are that The Coffee Plantation has closed. FourBux reports that the location on Camelback Rd. and 24th St. was closed this morning with a sign on the door saying “go to Borders or Hagen Daaz for coffee.” I quickly called the phone number for that location and received a number not in service. The same thing happened when phoning all of the other locations listed on the companies web site. Please leave a comment if you know any other details. Update: FourBux says “I just went back past the Plant and they’r moving to the Town & Country shopping center. Opening soon.” Update 2: Other Coffee Plantation locations are unaffected.
Ben Atkin A couple of months ago, I tried to call the location on Mill Avenue. The number for Mill Avenue didn’t work, but one of the other ones did, and they were able to give me a number that worked for Mill Avenue. So, after hearing that you couldn’t get through to any of them, it sounded like they could all be shut down. Fortunately, that is not the case. I used Google Maps to get a phone number for The Gelato Spot on Shea in Scottsdale and asked if the Coffee Plantation right next to them is still open. They said that it is still open. I asked if he knew of any plans to close, and he said he didn’t think so, because they moved a lot of employees from the Biltmore location to the Shea location. I can’t think of any good reason for Coffee Plantation’s website to be so out of date. Whether they want to expand, sell, merge, or keep their business like it is, it seems to me that the best thing to do would be to encourage lots of people to come to their coffee shops that are open. Hopefully one of them sees this and they spend the half hour or so it would take to update the location listing on their web page. 0 Reply April 4, 2008
Chris Tingom That’s a good idea to call Gelato Spot. Thanks for doing that Ben! If anybody from Coffee Plantation wants to outsource web site management get in touch with Tornado Design at 480-945-5653 (that’s me). We would be happy to help out. 0 Reply April 4, 2008
FourBux I didn’t even know they had a web site. It’s been hit or miss for so long I just quit looking for it. The store directory would have been nice to know about. Although it would have ruined the little game I play with them: show up and see if they’re still open. If they are, I win! 0 Reply April 5, 2008
hb I can honestly say I saw that coming, the Biltmore has began to get “upscale” stores and restaurants. Maybe the rent was too much and business wasn’t that great. The quality in service and product was not there. Hopefully someone with a great service background and good product will come in and open a great coffee shop badly needed in that area. 0 Reply April 6, 2008
Melissa Word on the street is Paradise Bakery is going in. Bummer. Would have been nice to have something more unique. 0 Reply April 9, 2008
Chris Tingom Melissa: I figured something like that. I wish it was something more unique as well. Chris 0 Reply April 9, 2008
austin baker I had the worst cappuccino ever today from Coffee Plantation. I had to throw it away and I NEVER do that. I don’t know why i didn’t complain, but there are three other shops within a 2 minute walk. I know where i will not be going again. 0 Reply April 9, 2008
Brit I heard the one at Metrocenter (I used to work there… ugh) closed too. Apparently, the employees showed up for work one day and the place had been gutted. No one told them about it. My good friend works at the Sticker Place kiosk right across from CP, so my source is reliable. Wonder what happened to cause them to react so drastically. 0 Reply April 14, 2008
Grace Where is Town and Country Shopping Center? CP at Biltmore is really a very nice place to relax and hang out. Although, everyone does not really know each other, it seems that we all know one another. I missed the chess players, the cute and adorable dogs, the singing and laughing. Mennn… now we don’t have any place like CP to hang out anymore. 0 Reply April 15, 2008
