A reader named Ryan emailed me and reminded me that I had not visited Tempe recently. Saying I needed to try the South Tempe coffee shop circuit. Tempe is home to about 12 independent coffee houses. The three I visited today were Steve’s Espresso, Bunna Coffee, and Solo Cafe. Each are within a few miles of each other. There are others really close to here, but three is enough for one day. I captured photos at each, and sampled lattes, mochas, macchiatos, and iced coffees. As I went, I reported my findings on Twitter. I’ll have a full report up soon about each place.
Thomas Reynolds I love Gold Bar Espresso and Seattle Espresso… both in Tempe. I live in North Scottsdale and I still drive down there once a week, just for coffee. 0 Reply February 16, 2008
Michael T So Chris, did you do the taste-and-spit, or are you just immune to caffeine? Either way, I’m looking forward to the reviews. I’ve been to Bunna – they have some great karma going on there with fair-trade and, I think, rainforest friendly coffee. 0 Reply February 17, 2008
Chris Tingom Michael, I am immune to caffeine. I can drink tons of it right before falling asleep. I’m sure someday that will all change though and hit me like a load of bricks. 0 Reply February 17, 2008
Chris Tingom Today while playing chess I had the opportunity to meet an Arizona Coffee reader named John! He’s from down in Tempe and said he had read the site for awhile. Thanks John! 0 Reply February 17, 2008
Jaime Just enjoyed my first visit to the Solo Cafe and loved it. I had a Cafe Mocha (sugar free syrup and 2% milk) in a glass; very tasty. Great atmosphere and very friendly service. I live in East Mesa, but will be back. Jaime 0 Reply March 11, 2008
