  1. When I first read the title, I thought it for sure meant paying for the person in front of you because you were in a hurry and they couldn’t seem to get the right amount of money or decided to write a check.

Much nicer idea to pay for someone behind you, for no selfish reason of your own.

Wonder how that would work in the drive-through though?

    Yeah, what HB said.
I was that guy in front of someone, and my geekiness led me to take far longer than was polite, so as I was standing there, I turned to the line behind me and started taking orders, with instructions to the barista to add it to my bill. It was a coupla plain ole coffees and a tea, so it wasn’t too bad.

A kind old man in wild plaid shorts turned around while we were in line at starbucks and asked conversationally, “so, what are you having?” I told him what I was going to order and he said that sounds good. Next thing I knew, he had ordered and paid for my coffee and made my day. He said, “What good is life if I can’t buy a coffee for a pretty girl? Enjoy and have a nice day.”
