Echo Coffee is hosting a Winter Barista Jam on Saturday, February 19 from 7-10 pm. For details, you can check out this extensive post with information for attendees and competitors.

During the event we will have a latte art competition. All Arizona baristas are invited to attend, participate, and compete. We will have prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. For those wishing to compete, we ask for a modest $5 donation.

The event is being co-sponsored by Echo Coffee, Walter the Bus, and Cortez Coffee.

As part of our continuing effort to combine an educational component for the professional barista, we will be offering a tasting opportunity with the same single original coffee roasted 4 different ways. It’s rare that anyone ever gets to try the same bean roasted differently, and we wanted to cease this event to give people a chance to play “roastmaster” for a night, and decide which roast they think makes the bean shine the best.

  1. Chris, thanks for helping to get the word out. I hope you are personally able to find time in your busy schedule to get out and enjoy the event.

  2. Hi Steve, I’m hoping to be there. I have out-of-town relatives who are visiting that weekend, so I’m not sure yet.

  3. Just curious….will this latte art competition be a free form only?

  4. Steve, I tried to clarify that on my page, but for the first round, the 6 oz capp must be free pour, while the 12 oz latte is open. For the playoffs, there will only be the 6 oz capp, and that is free pour only. I’ll instruct the judges that to reward more difficulty handsomely, and certainly, free pour is more difficult.

    See you there!

  5. Thanks for the clarification. I’m glad that etching and non free pour will not be in the final round. The winner at the Lola throw down being etching was bull…..we really need to not promote etching as art if we want to be taken seriously. It’s a nice gesture but not something to compete upon.

Whatever Brian I just mastered my etching skills portrait of you…

  7. I have the etching machine you ordered Brian…you can pick it up whenever…

  8. I promised my Mom a latte with a virgin of guadalupe on it. What should I tell her now?

  9. Thanks to everyone that showed up, and kudos to Jason Calhoon for winning, Adriana from Press Coffee for 2nd place, and Alex from Press Coffee for 3rd place. We had a huge turn out. People had a lot of fun, and I’m already looking forward to the next one at Echo Coffee again in August.
