I noticed something called the “Sunrise” on the menu at Jobot, and thinking of myself as some sort of Andrew Zimmern of the food world, I ordered it. You should, too! If you like orange juice with espresso shots. I know, you’re probably thinking to yourself “that’s a lot of acidic taste, does that work?” I assure you, everyone who tries this drink says it works! And, I tried it and really loved it. The orange juice is cold, and the espresso is hot (but it quickly cools down). The two ingredients don’t really mix, but instead the orange juice settles at the bottom of the cup. So, your initial taste is going to be mostly the ‘spro. Think of it as an orange juice chaser. Anyways, I liked it and if you’re looking for something new to try, I’d highly recommend it. I’m always on the lookout for new and interesting drinks. Now, if they could put a shot of tequilla in it… that might be even better! Jobot Coffee & Diner (as they are now known) is located in Phoenix just south of Roosevelt on 1st St. They’re inside an old bungalow house that has been opened up to remove the walls. I don’t know when they did this, but it must have been in the last year or two. Previously, the interior was much smaller. Now, there are 8 to 10 tables, some nice lounge chairs, and a huge long bar where you can sit and chat with your barista. They added “Diner” to the name and have increased the options on their food menu significantly. It was almost 3 pm when I showed up after a long meeting, and I ordered a breakfast sandwich (all day breakfast!). Delicious, and it had chilis in it. They also have a bunch of options for lunch and dinner. Their coffee is roasted by Cartel Coffee Lab and they can bag fresh beans for you for a good value. The front yard is an interesting mix of lawn furniture, picnic tables with umbrellas, and people. It’s a popular gathering place for college students.
